The Commstock Report is a twice daily market report. 06/22/2026 Click Above to Watch the Morning Market Talk Video Extremes Define Global Weather Pattern On the Grains Corn and wheat markets traded lower overnight coming off the extended weekend, while soybeans and soyoil firmed and soymeal was mixed. Forecasts call for below-normal temperatures and above-normal rainfall over the major corn and soybean areas of the U.S. during the next 10 days. Traders view the forecast as non-threatening for crop development, especially corn. Anecdotally, corn in eastern Iowa is starting to show the impacts of too much rainfall. What was field after field of lush green corn now has a much paler hue. The area showing impacts from too much rain is much wider than eastern Iowa… that’s just what I have personally seen. The assumption is that nitrogen is being leached from soils. While that may be the case, it could also be caused by lack of oxygen in soils due to saturation. Plants struggle to absorb nutrients when the soil is overly saturated, as the waterlogged conditions can hinder root development. Another downtick in crop condition ratings from USDA is likely.
